When we opened Bookends in the summer of 2022, our vision was to create a space for people who sometimes felt a little different to connect with stories and art that made them feel seen and welcomed. We hoped that our little store could become a hub for a boisterous community for some, and a quiet, happy place for others. This idea seemed to resonate! We were overwhelmed by the support of local readers and sought a way to bring them together. Thus, the Bookends Book Club was formed in September 2022. Our first meeting was officially held on October 4, 2022, to discuss The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix.
Since our first meeting, we have read books ranging from historical fiction to horror, fantasy to funny, with a good bit of murder and mystery sprinkled in. We have several members who have been with us since our very first meetings, many who have joined occasionally as their lives allowed, and we love to welcome newbies into our chaotic little cohort. Almost three years into this adventure, we finally had the idea (and committed to it) to blog our monthly read and meeting to share with those who are unable to join us. Our meetings have a monthly membership fee, but you only pay for the months you’d like to attend. Included in this fee are the food and drink for the evening and a small gift, both of which we try to theme around the month’s read when we can. If this sounds like your kind of soirée, we hope that you can join us sometime!
If you’d like to see what we’ve been reading, check out the full list of our past reads below. We’d like to invite Book Club members and guests alike to leave us a comment about a book you loved, or hated, or something memorable from one of our meetings!
